Louriceira is a village in the Parish and Municipality of Pedrógão Grande, which can be seen amidst the green vegetation, to the northwest, in the district of Leiria.
The municipality of Pedrógão Grande is one of the regions of the country where the natural beauty, customs and popular traditions allied to the purity of the air and water are maintained. The landscapes are dynamic, with distinct characteristics and strong tourist potential.
It is a vast region of granites and schists embedded in the basins of the rivers Zêzere and Unhais and the streams of Pêra and Mega, today increased by the reservoirs of two large dams, Cabril and Bouçã. The climate, which formerly had continental characteristics, with rigorous winters and torrid and dry summers, is now milder, influenced by the two large reservoirs that are also very rich fish areas.
Pedrógão Grande is part of the Pinhal Interior Norte area, the largest forest area in Europe, where pines, eucalyptus, acacias and olive trees predominate, which are of great importance in the local economy.
The archaeological remains found in the region give evidence of its history dating back to prehistoric times, probably to the end of the Bronze Age.
The first charter was granted in February 1206 by D. Pedro Afonso, the bastard son of D. Afonso Henriques. However, it was only in 1898 that it definitively became a municipality, continuing its comarca in Figueiró dos Vinhos. On August 8, 1513, D. Manuel I granted Pedrógão Grande his second charter.
